The Marriage of the Virgin
Painted by Giotto in 1305 as part of the fresco cycle in the Scrovegni Chapel (also known as the Arena Chapel) in Padua. One of a series of 12 panels depicting the life of the Virgin, it is one of the earliest examples of a ring being used as the high point of the wedding ceremony.
